Beautiful setting, excellent food & service. We were glad to wait for our table. The hostess asked us if we would like to sit at the bar to wait or if we would like a table overlooking the ocean while we waited.... Ocean! How beautiful and romantic! We didn't really explore the inside of the restaurant, from what we saw it was really pretty. We spent all our time on the back deck. Actually it's plural.... decks.... multiple levels with pretty little white lights decorating it. When the hostess came to get us for our table we didn't know how she could top our table overlooking the water, but she managed. We sat next to a tree that the deck had been built around, we found it to be very charming. It included the view, sound of the water and was less windy (we were in Key West, who cared about the wind off the water!). Our waiter was great. He seemed a bit cold at first, but once we started joking with him he warmed up really quickly. He took great care of us and was extrememely professional and capable. Our dinner was right up there. Key West has no lack of great food & Louie's not only has the great food but they have that awe inspiring view.
Stellar New American cuisine is matched by drop-dead gorgeous views..
The Scene
Louie's has one stunning backyard. A tri-level wooden deck drops down from the elegantly appointed dining room to two patio dining areas surrounded by tropical plants. It ends with a star-lit bar and cocktail lounge overlooking the Florida Straights. The food is haute, the service white-tablecloth professional, and the ambience relaxed and casual.
The Food
Whether revisiting classics (creamy textured duck rillettes with arugula salad) or reinventing them (savory smoked trout-bread pudding crowned by osetra caviar), Chef Doug Shook displays the skills that have made this one of the Keys' premier dining destinations. Dishes are both sophisticated and homey: Florida lobster braised in sinfully rich truffle butter with spinach and prosciutto, and plump local shrimp sauteed with bacon and wild mushrooms over grits. For dessert, try warm crepes or Louie's Key lime pie with a gingersnap crust and raspberry coulis.
Food, Cocktails, Service - ALL Awesome.
I love this place!
Every time I'm in Key West, I make a point to eat here. Try the Island Cosmo! It's Tasty! The food is always good. The view is incredible! I can't say enough good things about Louie's Backyard!
The Best.
I've been to Louie's Backyard many times. I can say that I've never had a bad experience there. I've gone with friends who've raved about it.
A few times we couldn't make up our minds about what we wanted to eat, so, we just told our waiter to bring us an appetizer, main course and dessert.
Each time our waiter made excellent choices and we enjoyed our meals immensely.
Alright. The only nice person we meet was the waiter. Everybody else was quite rude. The food was good but not great. The setting was great though.
A Dining Experiance.
Drinks by the water, dinner in a quaint resturant
Louis is a unique dinning experiance, one to enjoy while in Key West
Most romantic locale. Living on their reputation; not much in the way of innovation over the past three years; but still definitely one of the best spots on the island.
love louies.
I love this place first because it is a beautiful
retaurant on the inside. The wooden floors alone
make this plce unique. The outside is wonderful
for a drink or dinner. Plus, the food is very good,
fresh and a great menu. Very romantic
Perfect Ending to a New Beginning.
November 12th, 2002 I was married in Key West with a small group of family and friends. It was a great time. The only thing was everyone was there with us...so we ran around with everyone almost all the time. Our last night in Key West was to ourselves and we wanted to go out to eat at a nice restaurant, we had heard about Louie's Backyard.
It was so perfect...the sound of the waves the balmy breeze and some of the best food we have ever eaten. That will always be one of my fondest memories with my husband.
Best seared tuna. The only thing better than the seared fresh tuna was the view. It just melts in your mouth with its wonderful taste.
