An exquisitely appointed B&B set among historic botanical gardens. – The Scene
The grounds of this hotel were originally conceived as a botanical garden and cultivated by the local "lady of the orchids" who bought them in 1930 and opened them to the public in 1968. Today, the local and imported flora are for the exclusive enjoyment of guests. Notably, the property features four "tinajones" that were imported from Cuba in the 1950s. These are one-ton, six-foot-wide, 18th-century earthenware jars used by early Spanish settlers.
There are 17 rooms dispersed among five buildings, including the Main House which was built in the 1870s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many feature armoires and marble bathrooms with Jacuzzis. Unique accommodations include a cottage with cathedral ceilings and a carriage house with a top-floor suite. A two-bedroom, two-bath suite has lovely bathroom skylights and French doors leading to a private deck. Walls are painted in soft colors and adorned with specially commissioned Key West paintings. Breakfast includes key-lime beignets and world-famous Baby's coffee, exquisitely roasted in the Keys.
