Not only will you pay more and work more than "promised", but the management is poor. The idea of this place is wonderful, and our teacher was AWSOME!
When we started the program we were told we had to volunteer for a few "fund raisers" and there would be more than enough chances to complete this. I am in the service so it's been hard for my wife to attend the fund raisers with both children around my schedule, the management hasn't been forgiving. I won't bash the school more on this, but BE SURE to get the whole story on volunteering before you sign up (I suggest in writing). Another note on this, some of the fund raisers go against some basic morals, i.e. selling "shots for tots" at fantasy fest. Really? Sell alcohol for school??
WHY WE LEFT:
Though our child loved her teacher(and we did too) we had to remove our child from her class for her own basic safety. FACT is that there was a child in the class who had a biting problem. He had bitten 7 different children in his class on untold occasions. This was witnessed by my wife while she "volunteered" in the class on several occasions. There were numerous reports filed against him. Our child was bitten twice, on the second time my wife went to the office and demanded that this boy be removed from the class for the safety of all the children. She was told to go home and calm down. She was reassured that this is a "normal" thing that happens at this age and it happens all the time. We were offered another option which would cause us to pay more and our child to readjust to another class (unacceptable).
So, in short we pulled our child out of school because the school refused to remove another child with aggression problems. Rumor has it that this child’s parents have "contributed" extensively to the school. I hope this makes you think a little before choosing this school for your child.
oh wow! I'm a bit horrified at some of the reviews. I have 2 little ones and we have never been so happy. For those of you complaining about the work, you knew this going into it...how amazing, as parents, to be so involved in our child's education and growth. Not everyone is so lucky! ;)
Great Little School.
I have to say that I have had a fantastic experience at this School with my children. As long as you understand the concept of a Cooperative you will enjoy it also. Watching your children learn and grow is reward enough. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in your children's early childhood education.
Great family environment.
Fantastic experience. The pre-school coop is a fantastic nurturing environment dedicated to the children of our community. There is some work, but by the very nature of a cooperative, there should be. There are two clean ups per year and a few small fund raisers. Working in the class room is not work. It is an opportunity to watch your children interact with others. It is a warm nuturing environment. My children have made friendships that will last a lifetime as have my wife and I. Children with parents that are willing to sacrifice their time for the benefit of their children are thevery type of people that I want my family to be around. I am more than willing to give up a couple of mornings per month to help out at the school. I cannot emphasise enough the benefits that our little school provides. Our graduates are consistently in the upper tier of student success thoughout their scholastic careers.
Think about paying money to work in a place....
At the begining they start telling you that you are going to help in the school, what you dont know after you paid that you are doing everything for the teachers and school and they just watch you work, I went the first day and told me how nice it is and they basickly i would have to work overthere like a full timer and in top of that pay anywhere from $115.00 to $200.00 per month; like i said its a scam they change their rules and policies everyday so you cant argue anything. Check before you go to this place like i said i was one of the parents at this place and regret it for the rest of my life. i would not recommended in my whole life to any of my coworkers.
Honestly the persons that wrote this good reviews are the people that manage the place if you ask anybody in key west about this they would tell you that they are the worst of the worst, also no security at all.
Great Preschool!. We are new to the Key West Preschool and we are having an excellent experience. My daughter is in the 2's class and she hasn't really been a willing participant and her teacher has been so patient and kind with her. Yes there is work to be done, but that is the very definition of Co-operative-everyone lends a hand. I am excited to be a part of an organization that has such a sense of community. I feel that my children are safe & cared for when I'm not there and that I am respected as a mother when I'm the working parent in the classroom. I am looking forward to the rest of the year.
Love, Love, Love the Co-Op :). The Key West Preschool Co-op is an AMAZING place to send your children. I spent three years there with my son and will start all over this fall with the mommy and me class. I met many great parents that will forever be my friends. The curriculum is fantastic and the concept of 'children, parents and teachers all learning together' is something I whole heartedly believe in. Early childhood education SHOULD have a lot of parental involvement and this school displays that theory. I highly recommend the Key West preschool co-op to anyone that wants to be ACTIVELY involved in their child's early learning experience. It is truly gratifying and rewarding to both child and parent!
Proven to be the best!. I was really upset by the previous review the co-op received. The school is a co-op, therefore parents cooperate to keep the school running. As in everything there are always people who want to reap the benefits of a program like this without having to do anything for it! This is obviously one of those people! I have had an amazing time at the co-op, my children are ecstatic to go to school and the VPK program has been proven by the state to be the best in the lower keys. This school isn't for everyone, but if you want to be an active parent in a supportive positive environment and you have the time necessary this can be the best experience your child will have.
Worst experience ever.
I was enthusiastic about joining a cooperative school. That is, until I found out that "Co-Op" actually means that the leaders don't have to do their jobs; nor do they ensure that staff does theirs. I was sorely dissappointed and at some points horrified at how this school is run. Complaints aren't addressed. There are no clear lines of communication. I never knew if I was to go to the Board members or administration for questions and complaints. I could not even get that issue cleared up. Nobody knows anything.
The parents are made to feel like they owe the school something. That "something" being on top of tuition, volunteering in class, your school job, volunteering at the Spring Fair (which was horrific in and of itself), and fundraisers every month.
When someone does want to go above and beyond their duties, there are plenty of busybodies butting their noses in and make things complicated.
The lack of professionalism on the part of both the former president as well as the president-elect is quite distasteful, also.
