Best Pet Shop in Florida. Really amazing store. I am visiting from up North and I haven't seen a store so clean with animals this well cared for in a long time. The birds are kept out on play gyms during the day and provided with lots of different toys to keep them busy. They are also given bowls with fresh fruit/veggie mixes--an ideal part of a diet for parrots which I have yet to see any other pet store offer their birds. I went to another pet shop in Key Largo that had lots of birds, but none of them looked very happy/well cared for. ALL the birds in this store looked happy and not just that, but they were incredibly affectionate! I played with a baby Queen of Bavaria Conure who was so tame she would lay on her back in the palm of my hand! This place is really a must see for both the animal lover and the average joe who is just looking for a cool place to look around. They also have a very nice fish department with very healthy looking fish. Besides the animals for sale, there are lots of different products for other animals; dogs, cats, rabbits, hermit crabs--you name it. They have a very unique selection of toys for birds, small animals dogs and cats. They also board small animals for very decent prices. The staff here were friendly; based on the thirty minutes I spent in here, I honestly can't think of any cons, which for me is unusual as I tend to be a skeptic. If you're visiting the keys, a trip to this store is a must. There is also a very nice little book store in the same shopping center and a nature center down the road; out of all the places to look around in Marathon, this area seems to have the most to offer. Definitely worth your while.

Nice, clean pet shop. Whalton's pet shop is a great place to buy quality pet supplies at a reasonable price. I personally have never visited the Marathon shop, but have frequently visited the Big Pine Key store. Most of the staff is polite and courteous EXCEPT for the blonde older woman with a mullet hair-do. Every time my husband, or I visit the shop, she is nasty and ill-tempererd. Try to avoid her if you go in the store. I hope the owner reads this. She has no public relations at all. I think she should be fired.
