Awesome Mexican Food. I am not sure what the other 2 reviewers experienced but we thought Lenchos offered the best Mexican food we've ever had... ever! The owners are American and they take a boat to the coasts of Mexico... we ordered the ceviche and found out that they use razor fish which is what authentic Mexican ceviche should have. They bring it back themselves off the Mexican Coast and it is delicious! The enchiladas were to die for! We were leaving Key West on our way home and just happened by this tiny place just off the road and were very impressed with the food.

You gotta do Lencho's!. OK, you asked for it.

I must start by admitting that among other things, I write restaurant and entertainment reviews for newspapers in the Florida Keys. Lencho's is the only Mexican restaurant in Marathon, in the heart of the Keys. We went there because it was Cinco de Mayo and we wanted to celebrate and enjoy a great meal.

I can usually tell what a Mexican restaurant will be like from (1) the Sangria and (2) the chips and salsa. We ordered a liter of sangria, and it wasn't bad. Nothing great, maybe a 6 out of 10. Our first order of chips was disappointing; the chips were slightly stale, but the salsa was chunky and flavorful. The second order was better; these chips were fresh and crispy. I'd give the chips experience a 5 out of 10.

We both ordered the combination platter: taco, chipolte and enchilada. Not bad. 5 out of 10. I'm not a harsh reviewer. We've been to well over 100 Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants over the past decade or so, and I'd guess that my average review would be around 8 out of 10. I love Mexican food!!

We shared the dessert -- an order of flan. 6 out of 10. Not bad.

The entertainment was entertaining because it was so bad. I mean BAD. A skinny little Mexican guy singing ay-yi-yi-yi in a falsetto, high-pitched, squeaky voice. The patrons were struggling to keep straight faced. It was so bad it was funny. REALLY! 2 out of 10, amigos!

Enough! If we go back there anytime soon, it will be to take some unsuspecting friends as a joke, to watch their reactions. So you just may want to go there to see if I'm exaggerating or if it is really THAT funny. Go ahead, see for yourself!

Good decor, average food!. Formerly a Chinese restaurant Lencho's is now Mexican. I suspect the owners are the same. While the menu offers the usual Mexican selections of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas etc. it fails to include the standard "combinations" typically found in a Mexican restaurant. On a recent visit seating was prompt and beverages were at the table in moments and service was good. However, the menu lacked the combination members of our party wanted and we were told by the server that they were not available resulting in one of our party ordering "a la carte" and being charged for two entrees. The salsa served with the chips was watery and bland with nothing to distinguish it from crushed tomatoes with green onion. The basket of chips looked like it had been recycled from a previous table as some of the chips midway through the basket had splashes of salsa and bits of green onion on them. The tacos are in orders of three and were overpowered with cumin and short on meat. A chicken enchilada was also meager, with little chicken and topped with a bland sauce and no cheese. Our party all agreed that the overall experience would not warrent a return visit but to be fair the restaurant had only been "Mexican" for about six weeks. Also, prices seem a bit high considering portion size and quality. For those who truely love authentic Mexican fare it will likely be a disapointment. They may make needed adjustments in time. On the plus side the decor is a plesant Mexican theme without being tacky and parking is ample and convienient.
