Poor service/unprofessional staff members

Although beautiful with delicious food, good service left to be desired. I had a wedding there, spend thousands of dollars, and it was disgustingly disorganized. The ceremony started late b/c they couldn't direct people and every aspect was handled unprofessionally. The service was so bad that my brother ended up setting up the room where the reception was going to be held an hour before it was start. Also they can not follow a request of leaving a piece of fruit off a plate. No matter how many times they were told or how many times it was written in there system the fruit still appeared on my plate. To a person who is deathly allergic to it, this is very bad. The response I received from the manager after all issues were stated was nothing more than a mere Im sorry and good luck!
- Pros: Food, Location, Accomdations
- Cons: Service, Disorganized

If this isn't Paradise...I don't know what is....
After returning from the BVI (British Virgin Islands) this place is a great turnaround.
The service was personable and accommdating unlike the BVI. The staff was always saying hello and looking out to help you. I must have made at least three new friends (read...the staff). Unlike my experiences in the BVI!!!
After going to the American Caribbean Island of St. Thomas and going to the American Caribbean Island of Key West, the Caribbean Island you can drive to (K.W.) is a much better vacation.
I had no problems with the room, beautiful in every way. Refinements all around, the staff takes pride in the way the place is kept from the bathroom to the patio terrace. I was on the fourth floor (only allowed to build five stories in K.W.) and had a perfect view of the Ocean-beautiful azure Seas ~everyday and Mallory Sqaure.
There are two restaurants. "Hot Tin Roof" is an intimate dining venue with outdoor seating. Cool and breezy on the terrace outside. Plenty of overhead fans to circulate the already warming air from the Atlantic Ocean.
Our dinner consisted of an appetizer of Tempura dipped, Seaweed wrapped Crab cake that was an outstanding presentation. The main entree of Macadamia nut crusted Grouper was tender perfection. So fresh from the sea, they must get it right from the fishing fleet a couple blocks away.
The other restaurant is actually the Pier that is juxtaposing out from the harbor cove into the Ocean. You can find the best "Sunset" in America here. Looking out onto the Ocean while enjoying a remarkable sunset~with a cervas~is a good thing!
I saw on-line that many reviews had nothing but good things to say about this resort.
I can't agree more. When you have a Caribbean resort so close and accessible why would you go to a passport destination???
- Pros: Perched at the apex of Key West
- Cons: Nightlife
Charming hotel has boldly painted rooms, views of Mallory Square.

The Scene
The hotel is at the beginning of Duval Street's especially touristy section, so it's ideally located for visitors who want to stay in the center of activity. Many oceanview rooms also have private balconies overlooking Mallory Square, where the town's renowned sunset celebration takes place nightly. The pool and deck overlooking the Gulf, and the open-air Sunset Pier restaurant are popular gathering areas.
The Details
Colorful art hangings and hand-painted furniture make the bright red-, blue-, and green-painted rooms especially memorable. Bathrooms have pedestal sinks, and many also feature whirlpool tubs (with separate showers). While the lobby and the rooms themselves seem like new, the hallways and doors show lots of wear. But the friendly, accommodating hotel staff takes nearly every other detail into account.
Loved it!

Stayed here Nov 15-20, 2004. Can't recommend this place enough! Room was awesome - never wanted to leave. Bands on pier change every hour or two so if you don't like one, it will change soon. Never heard any sound from the renovations taking place in my building. Entire staff (hotel, bar, restaurant, pool) was helpful but unobtrusive. If you are considering the Pier House over this one, my only note is this...this protrudes out past the PH, so your view from PH may not be as good. I debated between the two but made the right choice!
- Pros: location, great room, quiet
Paradise Found in Key West
by chev at Citysearch
Ocean Key resort is one of the best locations in Key West, located at the tip of the famous Duval Street, within stolling distance of all the bars and restaurants. The rooms are gorgeous, with brightly colored walls, toucan carved armoires and cool tile flooring. Definitely splurge on an ocean view, the sunsets are incredible. The Billy Fish Bar & Grill has great atmosphere and typical bar food. Hot Tin Roof, the new restaurant, had exquisite food and service! The pool is nice, overlooking the ocean. We will be back!
- Pros: Location, Great dining, Gorgeous room
- Cons: No Spa
